Is Counselling For You?

by Paula Maxwell

Counselling can be helpful for many different reasons—not only when life feels overwhelming. Explore how counselling can provide space to understand what is happening, gain perspective and find a way forward that feels right for you.

What Can Counselling Actually Help With?

People often think you need to be experiencing a major crisis before counselling can be helpful. In reality, counselling can support you through many different experiences and life circumstances.

You might come to counselling because you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious or uncertain about what comes next. You may be struggling with relationships, adjusting to change, managing stress, dealing with loss, or simply feeling that something in your life isn't quite right.

Sometimes there isn't a clear problem at all. You may just want a space to pause, make sense of things and better understand yourself.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk openly with someone who will listen without judgement. It can help you explore what is happening for you, identify what matters to you, consider different perspectives and find ways forward that feel right for you.

At Essence Counselling, I believe there is no single approach that works for everyone. Counselling is collaborative and tailored to you, your circumstances and what you want from the process.

You don't have to have everything figured out before you come. Sometimes simply having a place to start talking can be enough.
